Metrodome

| Wednesday, May 27, 2009

from flickr user Dan Anderson
A very intense HDR photo capturing the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome in downtown Minneapolis in a way that I haven't seen before. Htis photo makes the much-maligned dome actually look cool.

Old red barn

| Tuesday, May 26, 2009

from flickr user nickinsauk
A decent capture of a relic of the past. A red barn sits, apparently unused, near Osakis, MN. The area surrounding the barn is nicely manicured but the building itself is in need of a little TLC.

Forest Co-Op. Creamery Assn. on Rice Co. Rd. 76 just N. of Co. Rd. 9, between Northfield and Faribault, Minnesota. It looks like it has been abandoned for some time.

Stars of 1st Ave.

| Thursday, May 21, 2009

from flickr user Dan Anderson
In all the times I've attended a show at Minneapolis' First Avenue club, I've never taken the time to pay much attention to the band names adorning the building's stars. Which bands in this photo are you familiar with?

Oriole At the Birdbath

| Tuesday, May 19, 2009

from flickr user djsime
The title is rahter self-explanatory. Orioles are somewhat rare in Minnesota as it seems to have been my mom's lifelong goal to photograph one. This photo was taken with a Nikon D80 which is the same camera I use.

Naturally Linear

|

from flickr user theDancingLlama
The photographer says: SOC, only processing was adjusting the saturation a bit. Shot while on lunch break downtown. Didn't realize this until after I uploaded the pic to my PC, but it contains naturally selective color which is awesome! This was taken on the skyway over Broadway, connecting the Radisson and UMR

Hampton

|

from flickr user orangedot777
I love a good "soup-can" watertower. I'm curious what others refer to this style of watertower as. And where, exactly, is Hampton, Minnesota? I could GoogleMap it but your input means more.

Linus is getting flowers

|

from flickr user Angela Beagrie
Even though this photo in downtown St. Paul, Minnesota was taken last autumn, it still makes me think of spring. Maybe it because of the budding love between these two Charlie Brown comic characters or maybe it's because these statues are so well crafted that it's hard not to love them right back.

Mayo Clinic tulips

from flickr user -Chad Johnson
Tulips in Mayo Clinic's Annenberg Plaza ~ Rochester, Minnesota

The building on the left is the Mayo Building. The building on the right is the Gonda Building. The 20-story Gonda Building is linked with the Mayo Building and the Charlton Building of Rochester Methodist Hospital, forming the largest interconnected medical facility of its kind in the world, more than 3.5 million square feet.

An important feature of the Gonda Building is its architectural details, sculptures, paintings, multicultural artifacts and landscaping, which combine to create an environment that is beautiful to the eye and healing to the body, mind and spirit. (mayoclinic.org)

The Lowry Tunnel

| Monday, May 11, 2009

from flickr user Dan Anderson
Minnesota doesn't exactly have a plethora of highway tunnels but the Lowry Tunnel on Interstate Highway 94 in Minneapolis is definitely the busiest. The orange tone of this photo gives the subject a far grittier appearance than the sterile freeway tunnel truly is.

As the photographer states, the focus could have been better but I feel that this is a great photo definitely worthy of a very large frame and being prominently displayed for all to see.

This rustic barn near St. Michael, MN looks even more rustic and eerie with the glowing light eminating from behind it.

Gooseberry Falls, MN

|

from flickr user kellykilbride
If you think autumn is the only good time to visit Minnesota's north shore of Lake Superior, you are mistaken. This photo of Gooseberry Falls just up Highway 61 from Duluth illustrates that spring is also a fabulous time to take in some of Minesota's natural treasures.

Spring at the lake

| Tuesday, May 5, 2009

from flickr user AprilShowersPhotography
A vibrant photo of the Prior Lake shoreline taken last week. Yes, the lake still looks very clean but is actually "infested" with Zebra Mussels. Clean your boats, folks and we can keep the rest of our lakes free of these nuisances.

Steel Venom at Valleyfair

|

from flickr user MNkiteman
The photographer says: I was hoping to get more of the rides, but the winds were really light and getting the camera off the ground and keeping it airborne was a chore.

This cool vantage point is, based on the user's name, captured with a camera on a kite at Valleyfair amusement park in Shakopee, Minnesota.

Frankenstein slide looms large

from flickr user angelrove
The giant monster or Frankenstein slide at what is arguably Austin, Minnesota's largest city park, Todd Park. Even at my somewhat advanced age iduring my high school years, I was known to take a trip or two down this beast with friends in those less stressful days of the past.

Reflections

| Friday, May 1, 2009

from flickr user Dan Anderson
The photographer says: I like this building - it looks like a little castle and has mirrored windows so you can’t tell what’s going on inside - on the corner of Prior and St. Anthony, St. Paul MN

Italian style St. Paul Cathedral

|

from flickr user Dan Anderson
The photographer says: Picture of the St. Paul Cathedral taken from Cossetta's parking lot during a lunch run - after all the pizza, this image reminded me of an old world Italian painting (so it got adjusted accordingly)
