The most striking thing about this photo focusing on Duluth, MN's lift bridge is the vibrant blues but the true focus is the unique cloud formation. It's probably nothing more than a thunderstorm but if it was seen in sci-fi thriller movie it would probably be followed by the unveiling of the alien's mother ship. Good thing this isn't the movies...

The big buck

from flickr user djsime
It's a good thing that this rather sizable buck is currently within a state park in Albert Lea, MN and with the firearms deer season opening next weekend he'd better stay there.

Autumn Glory

Taken in southern Minnesota just before harvest. The barn has a stone foundation, unlike most Iowa barns. The fall colors were just beginning to light up.

An impressive collection of protest signs covering a wide variety of topics free for protesters to pick up and use at the Occupy Minnesota (an offshoot of Occupy Wall Street) protests at People's Plaza in Minneapolis. #occupymn
A sci-fi twist on Lake Superior

from flickr user Brett's View
This is either the creepiest and most surreal photo of Lake Superior or the most spectacular photo of the big lake ever taken. It looks like something out of a science fiction movie and a photographer's dream landscape all rolled in to one.
Como-Harriet Streetcar Line

from flickr user steve55126
The Minnesota Streetcar Museum's Twin City Rapid Transit PCC No. 322 poses under the William Berry Road bridge on the Como-Harriet Streetcar Line in Minneapolis. I had it posed under the bridge, but Mark Lynn had the great idea to include the bridge in the shot and Jeff Terry did the lighting. Thanks guys!
No. 322 is from a 1946 order of 40 cars that were delivered by the St. Louis Car Company for Twin City Lines. No. 322 arrived in December 1946 and entered service the following month. In October 1953, No. 322 was one of thirty cars sold to Public Service Coordinated Transport of Newark, New Jersey. They in turn sold it to the Greater Cleveland RTA in April 1978. In August 1990, No. 322 was purchased by the Museum for restoration and operation. It returned to service in 2000
WCCO microphone down!

from flickr user aaron.goodyear
This seems disrespectful for any piece of technology to be laid on a sidewalk but there is probably a reason behind this WCCO microphone's placement. Plus it makes for a damn cool photo.
Autumn Path

A tree-lined train in Rochester, MN seems to be a popular final resting place for colorful fallen leaves as the burst of fall colors across Minnesota comes to a sudden end.

Lebanon Hills Park, Eagan, MN.
With awesome scenery like that, I can see why it keeps drawing people back.
Zippel Bay Moonrise

A stunning long exposure moonrise at Zippel Bay State Park in the northernmost reaches of Minnesota. Particularly amazing is the purple tone of the water.
The angled dock

Wayzata Marina. Water and wood. This is the perfect photo after yesterday's very welcome shot of rain. It seems like it hadn't rained since mid-August.
2011 Minneapolis Zombie Pub Crawl

from flickr user Mill City Times
The eyeless effect on this particular zombie made this photo a lock for today. 2011 Minneapolis Zombie Pub Crawl at Grumpy's on Washington Ave S in the Mill District.
Chess by the Lake

from flickr user shotbox
Next to a lake in Minneapolis now almost wholly dedicated to bicyclists, joggers, rollerbladers, and fast walkers, this was refreshing to see on an amazingly warm October afternoon.
Autumn reflection

from flickr user jjs08
The calm waters of this Minnesota lake make for a superb reflection of the brilliant yellow, orange and red leaves on the opposite shore. Get out there soon because the color definitely seems to be at its peak or close to peak in and around the Twin Cities.
Bonus prize

from flickr user MN Transfer
The photographer says: Late afternoon found two westbound trains ready to leave Minnesota City as MOW crews wrapped up a day of work installing welded rail on Stockton hill.
The ethanol empties were followed shortly after by train 277, seen here at M.P. 11 nearing Stockton. The trailing unit still wears the paint scheme of IC&E predecessor Iowa & Minnesota Rail Link.
Indian Summer

from flickr user Purpletree
We're having beautiful weather here in Minnesota..Nice warm days and cool evenings..Must be Indian Summer; )
There is a big rock that you can sit on and look at the Misssissippi River..However you don't want to lose your footing as there is a very steep hill right below it.. It leads to the river, but there are better ways to get down to the river than falling down; )
Autumn Light

Late day autumn light at Sekapp Orchard in Rochester, Minnesota makes for some amazingly rich oranges, browns and golds.
