Hexagon-shaped Schoolhouse - rural Jackson, MN

from flickr user The Bouncing Czech
An unusual six-sided schoolhouse, located southwest of Jackson. I'm putting this hexagon-shaped rarity on my must-see/must-photograph list.

Jackson, MN Speedway

from flickr user David A Parker Photography
The Jackson, MN Speedway as seen at sunrise. Without any cars on the track and with the expert skill of the photographer it's truly stunning to see the detail of the dirt track -- most notably the proliferation of cracks from the prolonged drought across much of Minnesota.

First Snowfall - Welch, MN

from flickr user Ebbs2
Saturday brought the first snowfall of the winter season to many parts of Minnesota and while plenty of Minnesotans couldn't figure out how to drive on a mere inch or two of snow in the south metro, it made for some wonderful photo opportunities like this one near Welch, MN.

Available

from flickr user novice09
The photographer says: Seriously, there is a realtor sign to the right of this photo. There is a large barn and several outbuildings. And I bet the price is high because although you can't see it here, the back yard has a breathtaking view of the Mississippi River valley.
The Little Things - oats

from flickr user Dave Linscheid
Amazing depth of field on this photo of a single stalk of oats combined with a contrasty mainly black background make this a photo worthy of office art -- and not the motivational poster type -- I mean real art, maybe printed on canvas.

November in Northfield as told by a water tower

from flickr user orangedot777
This photo of a simple water tower in Northfield, Minnesota jumped out at me today. I'm not sure if it's due to its rather stark and almost barren setting or the insanely vibrant blue sky captured by the photographer. Whatever the case, it's a great statement about what early to mid-November is Minnesota truly looks like.

Mill City ruins - layers of time

The photographer says: I had a fun day exploring downtown [Minneapolis]... just a hop and a skip from my own backyard. These [Mill City] ruins were fascinating... if only these walls could talk.

The Spoon and Cherry photo to define Minneapolis

from flickr user EyeCandy Photo
The Spoon Bridge and Cherry sculpture at the Walker Art Center's Minneapolis Sculpture Garden is one of the most over-photographed icons of Minneapolis. For whatever reason, it defines the most populated city in Minnesota but while the sculpture is iconic, the photos taken of it feel overdone. This photo, showcasing the Spoon Bridge and Cherry through a tree-lined sidewalk is a welcome new twist. Nicely centered and framed by golden leaves, the old sculpture somehow feels new again.

Autumn Berries

from flickr user glness
In the time since this photo was take (a mere ten or so days) the Minnesota landscape has become nearly devoid of color as berries like these are plucked by birds and other animals in preparation for our normally long winters.

October's End - Hay and Buffaloes

from flickr user Tricia V
A wonderfully grainy photo taken over some round hay bales of buffaloes grazing on a gray October day. A moody photo which reminds us that Winter is all too near.
