It won't be long before the Pelicans seen on many of Minnesota's 15,000-plus lakes head south for the winter months.

Great photo! I'm curious where the 15,000-plus lakes number comes from? I know Wisconsin has over 15,000 (though only 40% are named, as many are under 10 acres), but I thought Minnesota had closer to 12,000 (Wikipedia says 11,842).

I don't recall if I learned of the 15,000-plus number in print, online or via television but I do know that the number all centers on the definition of what qualifies as a lake.
